Great Neck House Youth Classes

Winter/Spring – 2017

General Information: Classes begin the week of February 27th and end the week of June 5th. Course registration is on a first come, first served basis during regular registration department hours. Parents are required to stay for all children’s classes except classes indicated.  If you don’t see a class that meets your requirements please see our facility director about trying to coordinate another class. Monday classes run for 12 weeks, Tuesday and Friday 13 weeks, Wednesday and Thursday 14 weeks.

Create and explore in this dynamic class that will stretch the imagination while doing arts and craft projects using a variety of media to create age appropriate projects.

Beginner Ballet / Modern Dance    (register online: [Computer]  [Mobile Device])

Ballet and Modern dance are considered two of the most fundamental forms of dance since both teach balance and coordination skills that can be used throughout life.  This class will teach students the basic skills and techniques of both dance forms.  Activities include bare, floor, center stage and traveling floor work in a fun, encouraging environment.  Leotard and tights preferred, ballet shoes required.

Learn tap dancing through basic instruction. Emphasis on clarity and sound. Flat tap shoes are mandatory.

Cooking, math, science, reading, and history--all mixed up into one pot of fun! In Kids in the Kitchen, your child will learn to make: cookies, bread, brownies, Fruit Kabobs, muffins, pizza, salads and more! Teaches children safety, nutrition, cleanliness, measuring and use of equipment. Come join the fun. (All ingredients are kosher)

Anything can be hand built by you. We will show you how. Begin by pulling the clay, building your piece, to cleaning and glazing it. The sparkling results will amaze you! Children ages 3.5 and up

Scribble drawings, sponge paintings, handmade paper, graphite pencils, charcoal, and collages … all play a part in our Fun Art classes! Imagination, mixed-media, and an open mind, Will allow you to draw and explore! Children ages 5 and up

A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in R&B and pop music to encompass movements with various elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.  Hip hop is urban, it’s street, diverse and forever changing.

Designed for children 18 months to 3 years of age who have never been to school.  Introduction to learning skills such as basic math, reading and more.

Learn Gymnastics skills in a friendly environment that encourages movement and motivation. Students will learn to stretch, tumble, balance beam, hand
stands, cart wheels and basic vault. Students should wear comfortable clothes.

An introductory foundations of acting program for aspiring actors and actresses. The program is designed to build confidence and enhance speaking and presentation skills. Emphasis is on learning and fun! The program culminates in a performance including all the children.
